In an attempt to squelch Belle’s recent outbreak of diarrhetic episodes, I put the kibosh on Wesley sharing his apples and nectarines with her in the evening and cut out all other dog standard fare, sans kibble. Belle has a love for all things food (we must be soulmates!), but her fondness for fruit appears to far surpass her lust for a plethora of other tasty noms. I was surprised, however, when her episodes continued, despite having restricted her to a kibble only diet (no doggy bones, duck jerky, chicken & rice, nada).
"I spy a 'mater!"
DUN-dun. DUN-dun. :DUN-dun-DUN-dun-DUN-dun
DUN DUN DUN!!! Teaching the little guys how to go in for the kill.
Imagine my dismay when I discovered that sweet Belle has been secretly plucking and gobbling tomatoes from my garden when she goes out to potty. I witnessed this for the first time over the weekend and couldn’t help but chuckle and feel a twinge of adulation. There’s nothing more I admire than determination to get what you want; to press for what brings you joy – especially when others repeatedly tell you that you can’t have it/make it/ do it. Animals can teach us so many life lessons, including how to be clear with yourself about what you want, and then figure out how to make it happen in the face of adversity. Diarrhea be damned!
*Despite my appreciation for Belle’s ingenuity, I decided to cover my tomato plants with deer netting Monday night. Not because I mind sharing the bounty of tomatoes with my furry friend, but because my bamboo floors are getting far too much action as of late (and not the good kind).*
**Post original entry. Belle has successfully thwarted my efforts to eliminate her tomato consumption. :-)
